The country's emergency services said at least 10 sites in Israel were hit by Iranian rockets and shrapnel, including the Carmel, Haifa, Tel Aviv and northern coastal plains.
At least 11 people were injured in the attack, one of whom was seriously injured by shrapnel, while 10 others suffered minor injuries. The injured are being treated in hospital.
Israeli emergency services rushed to the scene immediately after the Iranian attack and began a rescue operation. The Israeli army said it was alerted to a new missile threat and that its defenses were on high alert.
Meanwhile, explosions were heard in Jerusalem and several objects were seen flying in the sky, local journalists reported. Warning signals were also heard in neighboring Jordan.
