The Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam made the comments in a Facebook status on Saturday morning (November 15).

He wrote that the February elections will be peaceful—perhaps the most peaceful elections in recent history. Three recent events have further strengthened this belief.

There was a fear of major chaos when the BNP released its list of candidates for parliamentary seats. It was expected that many rebel candidates would not accept the decision, protest or clash with supporters of the party candidates. However, apart from one or two minor incidents, the entire process was completed surprisingly peacefully.

This suggests that the BNP leadership had made proper preparations. The broad acceptance within the party of the nomination indicates—the possibility of internal party clashes during the election campaign and voting is very low.

On the other hand, the Awami League has long claimed that it has a strong grassroots network, which can influence the election. But recent developments have shown that its organizational power on the ground is now very limited.

The party now relies mainly on a few hired activists—who can set fire to abandoned buses, hold a few seconds of demonstrations, or spread misleading content on social media.

As a result, they have practically become a Facebook-centric protest group with no significant grassroots power in the field. According to long-term observations, the party's base has either broken down or merged with other parties. In this situation, they do not have the power left to disrupt the election.

He also mentioned that the visible improvement in the law and order situation in the country in recent months has instilled new confidence in the police, security forces, and field administration. The responsibility of supervising the election has been entrusted to the most experienced and skilled officials.

He believes that they will be able to deliver a peaceful and orderly election as per national expectations.
