On Wednesday (November 12) afternoon, Sajeed Ahmed, president of Kayukkhali Boat Owners Association of Teknaf Municipality in Cox's Bazar, confirmed the matter to the media.
He said that two trawlers from his ghat went to sea to catch fish. At that time, members of the Arakan Army chased them south of St. Martin's and captured 13 fishermen along with the trawler. The owner of one trawler has been identified, but the owner of the other has not yet been identified.
Meanwhile, Myanmar-based media *Global Arakan Network* reported that the Arakan Army's coastal security unit has intensified patrols at sea since October 28. During the patrol, several Bangladeshi trawlers were identified fishing in Arakan State waters. The report also said that from January to July 18 of this year, they detained 188 Bangladeshi fishermen and 30 boats and later released them. However, this time, the trawlers are being detained again on charges of violating the law.
Teknaf Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Sheikh Ehsan Uddin said that the owners of the trawler have informed him about the capture of some fishermen. The matter is being investigated and law enforcement agencies have been informed to rescue the fishermen.
