Hridoy, a 19-year-old worker, died after being brutally tortured at a garment factory named Greenland Limited in Konabari, Gazipur city. The incident took place on Saturday morning.

The deceased Hridoy was the son of Abul Kalam of Shuktar Baid village in Ghatail upazila of Tangail. He worked as a mechanical engineer at the factory.

A 1-minute and 16-second video of Hridoy being tortured has gone viral on social media. It shows him being tortured in a room with his hands and feet tied and his bare body. In the video, Hridoy is seen bleeding from his mouth and nose and people around him are saying, "He was beaten so much, (still) nothing happened, he didn't die."

Hridoy's elder brother Liton Mia has filed a murder case against unknown persons at Konabari police station. He alleged, "They brutally beat my brother to death and then tried to take the incident to a different category."

Police said that Hasan Mahmud, a worker at Greenland Limited factory, was arrested on Sunday after the incident. Konabari Police Station OC Salahuddin said that a drive is underway to arrest others involved in the incident.

The concerned people claim that the incident took place over allegations of theft at the factory. After the incident, the highway was blocked due to protests by workers. Although the factory authorities declared a holiday for an indefinite period, the industrial police said that the factory is likely to open on Tuesday after a two-day holiday.

Despite repeated attempts to contact the factory's DGM Kamrul Hasan in this regard, he did not pick up the phone.
