Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur confirmed the identification of the dismembered body on Thursday (November 13) night.

He said that the identity of the body has been confirmed through fingerprint analysis. The deceased has been identified as Ashraful Haque (42). His father's name is Md. Abdur Rashid and his mother's name is Eshra Begum. He is a resident of Gopalpur Nayapara village in Badarganj upazila of Rangpur district.

The OC also said that in the evening, locals saw two blue drums lying on the road adjacent to the High Court and informed the police station. Later, the police went to the spot and opened the drums and recovered the dismembered body. A strong stench was emanating from the body. A total of 26 pieces were found inside the two drums, wrapped in black polythene, along with rice.

The police's initial assumption is that Ashraful Haque was killed a couple of days ago, dismembered and stuffed into the drums. The body was dismembered from neck to feet, and there was a beard on the face.
