In a press release on Monday (July 14), the National Board of Revenue (NBR) said that the newly formed Income Tax Intelligence and Investigation Unit has achieved significant success in the last seven months, despite various limitations including manpower and logistical shortages.
The release said that since the start of full-fledged operations, the unit has taken effective steps to detect tax evasion and recover revenue. Already, bank accounts of more than a hundred individuals and organizations have been temporarily frozen based on specific tax evasion information.
The NBR further said that the Income Tax Intelligence and Investigation Unit is encouraging taxpayers to pay taxes voluntarily, while on the other hand, it has taken a strict stance against tax evasion and money laundering. The unit is committed to taking action against benami assets and tax evasion as per the law, the NBR said.
