Businessman Sohag Murder: Fugitive Accused Nannu Finally Arrested

RAB has arrested Nannu, one of the main accused in the brutal murder of scrap dealer Sohag with stones and blocks in front of Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital (Mitford) in the capital. He was arrested from the port area of Narayanganj around 1 am on Sunday.


RAB-11 commander Lt. Col. HM Sajjad Hossain confirmed the matter on Tuesday (July 15). He said that RAB-10 arrested Nannu in a raid and RAB-11 cooperated in it. He mentioned that RAB-10 will provide detailed information in this regard.


RAB said that Nannu was one of the four people who were seen in the viral video footage brutally hitting Sohag with bricks and cement blocks. Including his arrest, a total of 8 people have been arrested in this incident so far.


Earlier, two more accused named Sajeeb and Rajib were arrested in a raid from Dhaka and Netrokona on Sunday morning. The police have taken them on a five-day remand for questioning.


The brutal murder took place in broad daylight on a busy road in front of Mitford Hospital in the capital on Wednesday (July 9). The video recorded by witnesses shows that Sohag was beaten and hit with bricks and stones, leaving his head and body bruised. At one stage, he was stripped naked and some jumped on his body and hit him.


According to police and the victim's family sources, some youths from Old Dhaka called Sohag on Wednesday afternoon based on old acquaintances. He was killed in the evening. The deceased Sohag (Lal Chand) was involved in the scrap metal business. His village home is in Barguna Sadar. He was once associated with Jubo Dal politics.


Family sources also learned that the deceased's 14-year-old daughter Sohana is in class 6 and his 11-year-old son Sohan is in class 4.


It is worth noting that a total of 19 people have been named as accused in the Sohag murder case. Locals initially suspect extortion as the reason behind the murder.
