Police have recovered the body of an unidentified 12-year-old child from a room at the Anwara Residential Hotel in the capital's Sayedabad area.

The body was recovered from a room on the fifth floor of the hotel on Monday (July 14) afternoon. Jatrabari Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Hasan Bashir confirmed the matter.

According to police sources, the deceased child was wearing a check shirt and jeans. There were signs of neck twisting and strangulation on the body. There were also signs of injury to the eyes and anus, which indicate sexual abuse of the child. However, the police said that the actual cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy.

SI Hasan Bashir said that a man named Al-Amin entered the room at the Anwara Hotel on July 12. The next day, on July 13, he entered the room with a child and later left. He did not return that night either.

On July 14, around 11 am, suspecting Al-Amin's long absence, the hotel authorities went to the room and found the child's body and immediately informed the police. The police went to the spot and recovered the body and after completing the legal process, sent it to the Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

The hotel authorities said that Al-Amin was a regular guest of the hotel. He has been absconding since the incident, and the police are conducting a drive to arrest him.

SI Bashir said, "Initially, it seems to be a murder. However, the exact cause of death can be said with certainty after receiving the investigation and autopsy report.
