Pope Francis Buried In Rome

Pope Francis, the religious leader of the Roman Catholic Church, was buried in the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome on Saturday (April 26). Earlier, his funeral was held in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican, where leaders from all over the world and millions of people participated.


The funeral ceremony, which lasted about two hours, was conducted by the senior cardinal of the Catholic Church, Giovanni Battista Re. He praised Pope Francis' "leadership with an open heart" and "effort to build bridges for humanity."


US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Prince William of the British royal family and other top leaders of various countries were present at the ceremony. About 200,000 people attended the last farewell, of which at least 50,000 were inside St. Peter's Square.

Trump and Zelensky held a private meeting inside St. Peter's Basilica on the day before the pope's funeral. Officials said the meeting was productive.


Earlier, Pope Francis died on Monday (April 21) at the age of 88. He had been suffering from physical illness for a long time and was undergoing treatment in the hospital.
