On Wednesday (May 7), the British media outlet BBC reported live updates on the recent tensions and casualties on the India-Pakistan border.

The Indian army said that Pakistani troops have opened fire on civilian areas of Poonch and Tangdhar in Jammu and Kashmir. The attack, which began on Tuesday night, has killed 15 civilians and injured at least 43 others.

Almost two weeks after the gunmen attacked Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, India retaliated on Wednesday night at least nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. In this, Indian troops fired 24 missiles in 25 minutes and India claimed that at least 70 people were killed in this attack in Pakistan.

However, according to the Pakistani army, 26 people were killed in the Indian attack. In addition, there was heavy firing between the soldiers of both countries along the Line of Control (LoC), where another 10 people were killed and more than 30 were injured in Indian-occupied Kashmir.

Pakistan has claimed to have shot down at least five Indian fighter jets, although the Indian military has admitted to shooting down three.

Tensions between the two countries have been high over the ongoing attacks and counter-attacks. Pakistan's National Security Committee has called an emergency meeting to authorise the military to take retaliatory action.

Describing the Indian attack as a "clear act of war", Pakistan said it had informed the UN Security Council and was ready to take retaliatory action if necessary.

"This response is self-defensive. Pakistan is a responsible state, but we are ready to take all necessary steps to protect the honour, integrity and sovereignty of the country," said Pakistan's military spokesman Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry.
