At least 85 Palestinians have been killed and 247 others injured in the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours as Israel's air and ground attacks continue, Al Jazeera reported on Friday (May 23).
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 29 deaths, including children and the elderly, have been confirmed as due to starvation. Thousands of people are currently suffering from extreme food shortages and many are at risk of starvation.
107 bodies have arrived at hospitals in the past 24 hours. The total number of injured has risen to 122,197. Many more bodies are lying in the rubble and on the roadsides, but rescuers are unable to reach them.
Israel resumed its full-scale offensive in Gaza on March 18 of this year. This round has killed 3,613 people and injured more than 10,000. As a result, the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement have effectively collapsed.
The total death toll from the Israeli offensive in Gaza since the operation began in October 2023 has risen to 53,762. The case is ongoing at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), calling the attack a "genocide.
