Israel has carried out a series of deadly attacks on Iran's capital Tehran and various military installations, nuclear research centers and residential areas. The operation, which began on Thursday night (June 12), has been named 'Operation Rising Lion'. Al Jazeera reported that more than 70 people have been killed and more than 320 people have been injured so far, citing Fars News Agency.

Important figures in Iran's top military and nuclear sectors have been killed in the attack. The head of the armed forces, Mohammad Bagheri, IRGC commander-in-chief Hossein Salami, and Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters commander Major General Gholam Ali Rashid have lost their lives. In addition, at least six nuclear scientists have been killed, including Fereydoun Abbasi, Mohammad Mahdi Tehranchi, Abdulhamid Minouchehr, Ahmad Reza Zolfaghari and Amir Hossein Feki. The name of another has not yet been released.

Iran has reacted strongly to the attack. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said, “The Zionist regime has exposed its barbarity even more nakedly by attacking our residential areas. They will pay a heavy price for this barbarity.”

He also warned that the consequences of the attack would be “bitter and painful” for Israel.
