The uncle of the deceased Amit, Faruk Hasan, told Prothom Alo that Amit had a tea shop in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. On his way back from closing the shop in the morning, four or five people attacked him while he was eating khichdi at a shop in front of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. They stabbed him indiscriminately and snatched his money, gold chain and mobile phone from him.

He also said that Amit was taken to Suhrawardy Hospital in a seriously injured condition. Later, when his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College, where he died while undergoing treatment at 10 am. Faruk claimed that Amit had a past enmity with the killers and that was the reason for the murder.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Camp In-charge Md. Faruk said that the body of the deceased has been kept in the hospital morgue and the matter has been reported to the concerned police station. The police are taking legal action.
