Ramzan Munshi (32), who was shot in the violence in Gopalganj, died at Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital around 2 am on Thursday (July 17) while undergoing treatment. The doctor on duty declared him dead. He was a rickshaw puller by profession.

Ramzan's brother Hira Munshi said that Ramzan was shot in the violence on Wednesday afternoon while returning from a rickshaw near a cinema hall in Gopalganj Sadar. He was initially taken to a local hospital, but was shifted to DMCH at night when his condition deteriorated. He died there while undergoing treatment.

With this, the death toll in the violence has risen to five. Earlier, four people were killed on the spot in Wednesday's incident - mobile parts seller Sohel Mollah (35), garment trader Deepto Saha (25), ceramic shop employee Emon Talukder (17) and mason's assistant Ramzan Kazi (18).

Two more people who were shot are still undergoing treatment at DMCH Hospital. They are Sumon Biswas (30) and Abbas Ali (30).

Inspector in-charge of DMCH Hospital Police Camp Md. Faruk said that the body of Ramzan Munshi, brought from Gopalganj Sadar, has been kept in the hospital's emergency department morgue and the matter has been reported to the concerned police station.

It is worth noting that on Wednesday afternoon, an attack was made on the party's convoy on its way back from a meeting in Gopalganj. It has been alleged that the leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and Chhatra League carried out the attack. The entire city turned into a battlefield.

Later, the top leaders of the NCP took shelter in the district police superintendent's office and from there they were safely evacuated to Khulna in army tanks.
