Rokunuzzaman Sheikh, assistant headmaster of the morning branch of the English version of the capital's Motijheel Ideal School and College, has been suspended on the basis of serious allegations. He is a resident of Gopalganj district.
He was suspended on Wednesday (July 16) in a letter signed by the institution's acting principal Mohammad Ferdaus. The letter said that the decision has been taken in the interest of a fair investigation and asked him to give a written reply within the next 10 working days stating why departmental action will not be taken against him.
Serious irregularities allegations
Rokunuzzaman Sheikh has been accused of influence peddling, recruitment fraud and various irregularities in Gopalganj during the previous government. It is alleged that he was close to the controversial former governing body president and former secretary Abu Hena Mosshed Zaman.
The main allegations include:
Date of birth forgery: Although the MPO registration paper shows his date of birth as 15/05/1969, his actual date of birth is 20/10/1982.
Joining date change: Although the paper shows his date of joining as an assistant teacher as 10/10/2000, his actual joining date is 15/09/2011. His date of joining as an assistant principal is shown as 01/10/2000, which is actually 01/03/2023.
Signature forgery in forwarding letter: In the letter sent to Maushi, the signature of someone else was taken instead of the then acting principal.
Post related forgery: Although the recruitment notice mentioned 4 created posts, his own appointment letter showed 'empty posts'. The recruitment resolution showed 2 created posts and 2 vacancies instead of 4 created posts.
Conditions of suspension
The letter also states that during the temporary suspension, he will not be able to change his residence without the permission of the authorities and will receive food allowance as per the rules.
Reactions from teachers and authorities
Ideal School Acting Principal Mohammad Ferdaus confirmed the matter and said, “The temporary suspension has been made in the interest of a fair investigation.”
On the other hand, Assistant Principal Rokunuzzaman Sheikh said, “I have not applied for MPO registration. I will respond to the authorities’ letter in writing and am awaiting the decision.
