On Wednesday (November 5), Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of the Media Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the arrest.

According to sources, Jannatul Ferdous Jhuma was a former member of the district Awami League and the women's affairs secretary of Durgapur Upazila Awami League. She is the daughter of the late freedom fighter and three-time former member of parliament Jalal Uddin Talukder.

She contested as an independent candidate in the Durgapur Upazila Parishad election without getting the Awami League's nomination and defeated the Boat candidate.

Later, she resigned from the post of Upazila Chairman in the hope of becoming an Awami League candidate and purchased the nomination form from the Netrokona-1 (Kalmakanda-Durgapur) constituency in the 12th National Parliament election.
