The Appellate Division has fixed May 13 as the date for hearing the appeal filed by Jamaat-e-Islami seeking permission to re-register as a political party. The bench headed by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed fixed Wednesday (May 7) as the date.
Lawyer Mohammad Shishir Monir filed a petition for an expedited hearing on behalf of Jamaat in the court.
It is worth noting that in 2009, the High Court declared Jamaat's registration cancelled in 2013 following a writ petition filed by the Bangladesh Tariqat Federation. Later, the Election Commission issued a notification in this regard in 2018. When Jamaat appealed challenging the High Court's verdict, the hearing in the Appellate Division began on December 3, 2024.
