The seventh day of the second round of discussions of the National Consensus Commission began at 11 am on Sunday (June 29) at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital. The meeting is being presided over by the Vice-Chairman of the Commission, Professor Dr. Ali Riaz.

Today's discussions focused on the Appointments Committee of Constitutional and Statutory Institutions, the bicameral parliament, the election process of the upper house, and the responsibilities and roles of the upper house.

The meeting is mainly proceeding with the unresolved issues of the reform proposal. Instead of the previously proposed 'National Constitutional Council (NCC)', a new 'Appointments Committee of Constitutional and Statutory Institutions' has now been proposed. However, the BNP has objected to this, fearing that it will reduce the power of the executive branch.

The BNP has agreed to the proposal to set the maximum term of office of a person as Prime Minister at 10 years, subject to certain conditions.

In previous meetings, most political parties have agreed on the basic principles of the constitution, although the left parties have expressed differences of opinion on some issues. The proposal for amending Article 70 and 100 separate seats for women also received positive responses from most parties. Discussions are also moving towards consensus on the presidential election.

In the first round of discussions, a total of 45 sessions were held with 33 political parties and alliances including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP, CPB, Nagorik Oikya, Gana Sanghati Andolan, Gana Odhikar Parishad, AB Party.
