Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus's press secretary Shafiqul Alam said in his verified Facebook post on Sunday that the advisory council of the interim government has canceled the decision to celebrate 'New Bangladesh Day' on August 8.
He said that the advisory council has decided to celebrate July 16 as Martyrs' Day and August 5 as Mass Uprising Day. However, no special programs will be celebrated on August 8.
It is worth noting that after the government fell in the student-public uprising last Wednesday, the interim government formed under the leadership of Dr. Yunus declared August 8 as 'New Bangladesh Day'. A circular was also issued instructing all ministries and organizations to celebrate this day with due dignity, which was included in the 'B' category list of national and international days.
