The Gaza government claims that the dangerous drug oxycodone was found in flour bags distributed by US aid agencies, according to a report by Middle East Eye.
The Gaza Media Office strongly condemned the incident in a statement, saying that so far four citizens have testified that they found the tablets in the flour. It is also feared that some of the tablets were deliberately crushed and mixed with the flour.
Oxycodone is a powerful opioid, which is usually used to relieve severe pain in cancer patients. It is highly addictive and can cause respiratory problems, hallucinations and even death if taken in excess.
The Gaza government called the incident abhorrent and demanded a swift investigation and accountability.
