The leaders and activists of the National Citizens Party (NCP) and various Islamic organizations are holding a sit-in program in front of the Jamuna demanding the banning of the Awami League and the party's trial. On Friday (May 9), around 8:30 am, the NCP's southern region chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah called for a large gathering after Friday prayers.

He said that the construction of a stage has begun in front of the fountain, where a sea of people will form after Friday prayers. "Today they will understand who wants the Awami League banned," said Hasnat.

NCP leaders took a stand in front of the Jamuna from 10 pm on Thursday (May 8) demanding the trial of the Awami League, which was ousted in the July coup, and the banning of the party. Later, leaders and activists of the Islamic Movement, Hefazat-e-Islam, AB Party and Islami Chhatra Shibir also joined them.

On Friday, around 8 am, several hundred leaders and activists joined the protest led by Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka Metropolitan South Secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud. He said, “The student masses that brought the interim government to power are the same masses that are demanding the banning of the Awami League today. This decision must be announced by all political parties before noon today.”

NCP convener Nahid Islam said that it was the responsibility of the interim government to ban the Awami League. But since it was not implemented even after nine months, the students and masses had to take to the streets again.
