BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that there is no legal obstacle to his return to the country, Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said. "He is a citizen of Bangladesh, he can return to the country anytime he wants."

He made this comment while talking to reporters after visiting Salna Highway Police Station in Gazipur on Thursday (June 12) afternoon. In response to a question, the Home Affairs Advisor also said that whether Tarique Rahman's meeting with BNP Chief Advisor Dr. Yunus abroad will facilitate his return to the country or not depends entirely on his (Tareque Rahman's) personal decision.

Regarding the Indian push-in at the border, he said, "If any Bangladeshi citizen is inside India, we will definitely accept him. However, it must be through proper channels. But India is pushing people in irregularly, which is inhumane. The matter has also been informed to the High Commissioner in Delhi."

Stating that initiatives have been taken to prevent Covid, the Advisor said that measures are being taken to raise awareness at various places including airports.

Addressing the journalists, he said, “Promulgate complete information, not fragmented information. Because fragmented reports are used by neighboring countries for their own interests.”

At that time, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan, Highway Police DIG Shafiqul Islam and other senior police officials were present.
