The Supreme Court's Appellate Division Chamber Court has suspended the bail granted by the High Court to former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das in a sedition case. The chamber judge passed the order on Tuesday (May 6) after hearing the appeal filed by the state.

Advocate MK Rahman appeared for Chinmoy. Additional Attorney General Barrister Anik R Haque and Arshadur Rouf appeared for the state.

Earlier last week, the chamber court had initially suspended the bail and fixed a date for re-hearing the matter. At that time, the court had said that the order would be passed after hearing the arguments of the accused.

Meanwhile, Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin Mahmud ordered Chinmoy Das to be shown arrested in the murder case of Chittagong lawyer Saiful Islam on Monday (May 5). He passed the order in a virtual hearing.

The same judge ordered Chinmoy Das to be shown arrested in four other cases, including obstruction of police work and vandalism, on Tuesday (May 6). These orders were issued on the basis of the application of the investigation officer in all the cases.

It is worth noting that violence broke out in the Chittagong court premises on November 26 last year after the bail was rejected in the sedition case. At that time, lawyer Saiful Islam was beaten and hacked to death.

On October 31 last year, BNP leader Firoz Khan filed a case against 19 people, including Chinmoy Das, at the Kotwali police station on charges of sedition. Firoz was later dismissed from the party. Several people, including Chinmoy Das, were arrested in the case.
