The traditional 'New Year Joy Procession' has started from the premises of the Faculty of Fine Arts of DU to welcome the Bengali New Year 1432. The theme of the procession, which began at 9 am on Monday (April 14), was - "The Unity of the New Year, the End of Fascism".

The procession started in front of the Faculty of Fine Arts, passed through Shahbagh, TSC, Shaheed Minar, Doyel Chattar, and ended at the road in front of Bangla Academy.

A press release from Dhaka University said that 28 ethnic groups of the country, government and private educational institutions, socio-cultural organizations and guests from different countries are participating in this event. The procession will have 7 large, 7 medium and 7 small motifs.

People have been pouring in since morning to take part in the procession. People of all ages gather at the Fine Arts premises, taking pictures with loved ones, singing and playing music, and the entire area is filled with excitement. Unbridled joy is also seen among the children.

The administration and law enforcement agencies are working hard to ensure security. Additional security measures have been taken in the entire area.

Incidentally, this is the first Bengali New Year celebration after the political changes brought about by the student-public uprising on August 5. With a new spirit, this time, the 'Barshavaran Ananda Shobhajatra' has been organized instead of the 'Mangal Shobhajatra'.
