Additional Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallick has been removed from the post of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) chief. This information was given in a notification signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali on Sunday (April 13).

It is believed that the reason behind Rezaul Karim Mallick's removal is a controversy over a recent controversial incident.

On Monday (April 7), the Detective Branch (DB) arrested 'Miss Earth Bangladesh' winner model Meghna Alam from her house in Dhaka. Then on Thursday (April 10) night, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court issued a 30-day detention order against Meghna under the Special Powers Act.

The DB's role in the incident was heavily criticized. Several human rights organizations and civil society condemned it. To deal with the situation, the DMP issued a statement on Friday (April 11) saying, "Meghna has been kept in protective custody following legal procedures. She was not kidnapped and she has the right to seek legal assistance."

Rezaul Karim Mallick assumed office as DB chief on September 1, 2024, as confirmed by an office order signed by the then DMP Commissioner Md. Mainul Hasan. The post of DB chief had been vacant for about a month before that.

It is worth noting that Rezaul Karim Mallick joined the Bangladesh Police in 1998 through the 17th BCS (Police) batch. He has previously served in various important units of the police, including the CID.
