On Sunday (May 11), a source at the International Crimes Tribunal said that along with Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun have been brought under investigation in the July genocide case.
Initially, the investigation was started only against Sheikh Hasina, but later two more former top officials were included. As per the rules, the investigation report is first submitted to the Chief Prosecutor's Office. After review, it is submitted to the tribunal in the form of a formal charge.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam said in a Facebook post on Friday that the investigation report is likely to be submitted on Monday (May 12). After that, the trial process will begin with the submission of a formal charge sheet.
It is worth noting that on February 18, the tribunal had given time until April 20 to complete the investigation against Sheikh Hasina. Apart from the case, two other crimes against humanity cases are pending against Sheikh Hasina - one on charges of disappearance and murder, and the other on the 2013 Shapla Chattar incident.
