Additional Police Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam has been appointed as the head of the Intelligence Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. The appointment was confirmed in an office order signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat ​​Ali on Wednesday (August 27).

Sources related to the appointment said that Shafiqul Islam is an officer of the 18th BCS. Before joining the DB, he was serving as DIG in the Highway Police.

The post of DB chief had been vacant for about four and a half months. On April 12, the then head of the Intelligence Branch, Md. Rezaul Karim Mallick, was transferred and made DIG of Dhaka Range. Since then, an officer of the rank of Joint Commissioner has been in charge of DB temporarily.

Shafiqul Islam, a resident of Sariakandi Upazila of Bogra, completed his graduation and post-graduation from Rajshahi University. He entered professional life through the 18th BCS police cadre in 1999.

He started his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Lakshmipur. Later, he worked as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) in Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
