The International Crimes Tribunal on Sunday (June 1) issued arrest warrants against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in a case of crimes against humanity in the July-August massacre. The third accused in the case, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, has been shown a short arrest warrant.

A three-member tribunal headed by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder gave the order. At the same time, five charges brought against Sheikh Hasina and three others have been taken into consideration.

Earlier, on May 12, the investigation agency submitted an investigation report against Sheikh Hasina, in which she was mentioned as the main instigator of the July massacre. The investigation revealed that the government killed about 1,500 people by indiscriminate firing to suppress last year's anti-discrimination student movement.

On February 18, the tribunal had ordered the investigation to be completed by April 20. The trial began on the basis of the prosecution's application and a formal complaint was filed with the tribunal this morning. The trial was broadcast live on BTV.

Incidentally, on December 17, the tribunal had ordered the completion of the investigation against Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader and 46 others in another case within two months.
