The High Court has upheld the death sentence of OC Pradeep Kumar Das and SI Liaquat and the life imprisonment of 6 accused in the Major Sinha Md. Rashed Khan murder case. A bench comprising Justice Md. Mostafizur Rahman and Justice Md. Sagir Hossain announced the verdict on Monday (June 2). In addition, the order to fine each accused Tk 50,000 has also been upheld.

The court fixed June 2 for the verdict in the case last Thursday. Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman, Deputy Attorney General Humayun Kabir Manju and Shamima Dipti were present for the state in the hearing. Senior lawyer SM Shahjahan heard for the accused.

According to the state, this is a controversial case and a petition was filed to uphold the verdict of the trial court, including the hanging of OC Pradeep and SI Liaquat.

Earlier on April 21, the Chief Justice had appointed this High Court bench for the speedy disposal of the case.

It is worth noting that on the night of July 31, 2020, retired Major Sinha was shot dead at the Shamlapur checkpost in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar, where he was working on a documentary. Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail delivered the verdict in the case on January 31, 2022.
