Three Bangladeshi Fishermen Shot and Abducted by Arakan Army

On Monday (May 12), Myanmar's armed rebel group Arakan Army opened fire on three Bangladeshi fishermen while they were fishing in the Naf River near Leda in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar.


The abducted fishermen are Siddiq Hossain (27), Rabiul Alam (27) and Mahmud Hossain (30). They are all residents of Lamarpara, East Leda, Hnila Union, Teknaf.


Local fisherman Mohiuddin said that when they went to the Naf River in a boat at noon, members of the Arakan Army suddenly opened fire from the Myanmar border. Later, they chased them and captured the three fishermen along with the boat. Other fishermen in the vicinity somehow escaped.

Nurul Huda, a member of the Hnila Union Parishad, said that the Arakan Army took the fishermen hostage at gunpoint. Earlier, when the fishermen went to the river in the morning, they were first shot at.


Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sheikh Ehsan Uddin said that the fishermen have been taken away and that the details of the incident are being investigated.
