The decision was announced by Road Transport, Bridges and Railways Ministry Advisor Fawzul Kabir Khan at a briefing after a meeting on Eid preparations at the capital's Bidyut Bhaban on Monday (May 12).
He said that to ensure smooth travel of the general public during Eid, there will be a ban on the movement of trucks and covered vans carrying goods for three days before and three days after Eid. However, vehicles carrying sacrificial cows, daily necessities, perishable goods, garment products, medicines, fertilizers and fuel will be exempted from this ban.
It was informed in the meeting that livestock markets will not be allowed to be set up on or near the roads. Markets will be set up within the prescribed boundaries and will be strictly monitored.
Special vigilance will be maintained to prevent excessive fares and extortion. The police and other relevant agencies have been given responsibility in this regard.
Additional trains and coaches will be introduced to handle the passenger pressure during the Eid. The advisor said that work is underway to ensure an accident-free journey this time too, using the experience of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
To prevent robbery, instructions have been given to set up bank booths next to the livestock market so that transactions are safe.
