The water level of the Padma River in Rajshahi has reached near the danger level. On Monday (August 11) evening, the water level at Rajshahi Point was 17.39 meters, which is only 0.66 meters below the danger level (18.05 meters). The water level has risen by 0.17 meters in the last 24 hours.

The Water Development Board (PAUBO) has stopped inspecting the T-dam due to the rise in water level, and traders along the riverbank have been asked to move to safer places.

PAUBO sources said that the water level of the Padma started rising from July 24. Although it decreased slightly, it rose again from July 31 and is still rising. This has flooded the char areas. Residents are moving to their localities with their livestock and belongings.

Gazi Tariqul Islam, a resident of Char Khidirpur, said, "The chars have been submerged due to the rise in water level. Most of the people have moved, but there is a problem with animal feed."

Local resident Imtiaz Mehedi Hasan said, "The water is rising every day. Some are moving goods in boats, some are moving to relatives' houses or rented houses. Those who have livestock are suffering the most."

Md. Shahidul, a member of Harian Union in Paba Upazila, said, "Several chars have been submerged, water has come near the houses of many. The biggest problem is moving livestock."

Gauge reader Enamul Haque said that the Padma water level is very close to the danger level and the situation is being monitored.
