In his opening remarks at a meeting with the National Consensus Commission at the LD Hall of the National Parliament on Saturday (April 19) morning, National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam said, “The mass uprising of 24 was not to remove any party and install another. It was a movement to establish the rights of the people.”
He said, “Our goal is a fundamental and constructive reform – which will build a democratic state system and protect the rights of the people. We have to work collectively to implement this goal.”
Nahid Islam said that the NCP is giving special importance to reforms in the constitution, the power of the Prime Minister, the judiciary and the electoral system.
He also said, “The July Charter needs to be presented before the nation. This is our promise and we are determined to protect it. We have to move forward by closing all necessary channels so that no dictatorship or fascism returns to the country.”
The NCP delegation also included member secretary Akhtar Hossain, chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, joint convener Sarwar Tushar, chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah and senior joint convener Samantha Sharmin, along with two other members.
Earlier, a five-member BNP delegation, led by the party's standing committee member Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar, participated in a meeting with the National Consensus Commission on Thursday (April 17).
