A CNN report on Thursday (June 26) said that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has spoken for the first time since the ceasefire came into effect after 13 days of fighting. He said that Iran has "crushed" Israel.

Khamenei said, "I congratulate the great nation of Iran for the victory against the false Zionist regime. Despite all the chaos and claims, the Zionist regime almost collapsed and was crushed by the blow of the Islamic Republic."

He also wrote on the social media X (formerly Twitter), "Congratulations on the victory against the false Zionist regime."

Incidentally, Israel attacked Iran in an operation called 'Operation Rising Lion' on June 13 without any prior provocation. The attack targeted the capital Tehran, various military bases, nuclear research centers and residential areas. More than 600 people were killed, including the head of the Iranian Armed Forces, Mohammad Bagheri, IRGC Chief Hossein Salami, Commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, Gholam Ali Rashid, and 10 nuclear scientists.

In response to this attack, Iran launched ‘Operation True Promise-3’. Ballistic missiles launched from Tehran penetrated Israel’s advanced defense systems and hit important installations. Although the number of casualties was relatively low, Israel suffered extensive infrastructure damage.

Meanwhile, on the night of June 21, the United States attacked Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities. In response, Iran retaliated by attacking US bases in Qatar and Iraq on the night of June 23.

Amidst these counterattacks, the US President announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a ‘complete and comprehensive’ ceasefire. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected this demand. Finally, on the afternoon of June 24, Iranian and Israeli media and the US administration confirmed that a ceasefire had taken effect between the two countries. The Israeli Prime Minister's Office then issued an official statement, and Iran later confirmed it.
