Tensions flared up in the Baraibari border area of Sadar Union in Roumari Upazila of Kurigram on Tuesday (May 27) morning after a push-in incident.
Subedar Anju Mia, Company Commander of Baraibari BOP Camp, confirmed the incident.
Locals said that BSF members from Kakripara Camp under Mankarchar Police Station in Assam, India, illegally pushed 14 men and women into Bangladesh in Sub-area 1 of International Main Pillar 1067 of Baraibari border in Roumari. Later, when the BGB took the Indian citizens to the zero line, the BSF members abused them in foul language and fired 4 rounds of bullets. The BGB then took a position at the zero line. When news of the incident spread, residents of Baraibari and nearby villages also went to the border and took a position alongside the BGB.
Subedar Anju Mia said, “This morning, BSF opened the barbed wire gate and illegally pushed 14 citizens of their country into Bangladesh. When we took them to the zero line, the BSF got agitated, abused them and opened fire.”
He added that a large number of BSF members have currently taken up positions under the road on the other side of the border and the BGB is also on alert to monitor the situation.
