Severe traffic jams have been seen on various important roads in the capital since Sunday (August 3) morning. Huge crowds gathered in Shahbagh, Shaheed Minar and Suhrawardy Udyan areas due to rallies and events by Chhatra Dal, NCP and Saimum Shilpi-Goshti.
With the HSC and BCS exams also underway, public transport is crowded and extremely chaotic at bus stops. Many passengers said that there was no place to stand on the bus, and it was difficult to reach their destination on time due to the traffic jam. Drivers also said that it took more than an hour to travel a 10-minute route.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) issued a public notice on Saturday (August 2) urging the use of alternative routes and banning traffic in Shahbagh and surrounding areas surrounding these rallies.
According to the alternative route,
Vehicles coming from the Intercontinental Intersection have been asked to use Hare Road/Mintu Road.
Vehicles coming from the Science Lab have been instructed to travel from Katabon to Nilkhet or Hatirpul.
Vehicles heading towards Shahbagh from the High Court, Matsya Bhavan and Kadam Foara areas have also been banned.
The DMP has advised avoiding areas adjacent to TSC, Doel Chattar, Raju Bhaskarya and Suhrawardy Udyan.
The police have specifically requested HSC and BCS examinees to leave early and travel on alternative routes.
