Surveillance Up, Combing Ops Intensify

Intelligence surveillance and law enforcement activities have been intensified in the capital amid fears of sabotage in the current month of August. Recently, the news of a 'secret meeting' of leaders and activists of the ousted Awami League and its affiliates in Dhaka and the involvement of an army officer in it has sparked discussions across the country. Since this incident, law enforcement agencies have been on alert.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said that surveillance and combing operations are underway in residential hotels, hostels, messes and slum areas. This search will continue throughout August. 22 Awami League leaders and activists have already been arrested.

Intelligence sources said that action will be taken against anyone staying in a hotel from outside Dhaka if they cannot show their identity card and a reasonable reason for their stay.

Meanwhile, the army has taken Major Sadiq into custody on charges of secretly training Awami League workers. An ISPR release said that an investigation is underway against him on charges of political involvement and action will be taken under martial law if evidence is found.

DC of Ramna Division Md. Masud Alam said that every police station, unit and intelligence team is working due to the fear of sabotage plans against the government. DMP Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman said, "We are on the highest alert to prevent sabotage. Those involved are being brought under the law."

RAB also informed that checkposts, patrolling and intelligence activities have been strengthened in the capital to prevent any kind of violence around August.

Incidentally, on July 8, it was alleged that anti-government tactics were decided in a secret meeting at the Bashundhara Convention Center in the presence of Awami League, Chhatra League and retired government officials. A case has been filed with Bhatara Police Station in this incident.
