Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali said that security arrangements have been strengthened around Pahela Baishakh. At a press conference on Sunday (April 13), he said that strict security arrangements have been taken at every venue in the capital to ensure the festival runs smoothly.
The commissioner said that drone cameras, dog squads and additional police personnel will be deployed in different areas. In addition, intelligence surveillance is being increased.
Stating that masks will not be worn in the procession, he said, "In the interest of public safety, no one will be able to participate in the procession wearing a mask. Playing the flute will also be prohibited to prevent noise pollution."
Advising women and children to be especially vigilant, the DMP Commissioner said, "If you are going to participate in the Chhayanot ceremony, you have to avoid the crowd and move carefully."
