
Earlier, the initial list of candidates was finalized in a meeting of the BNP Standing Committee led by the party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that BNP is preparing across the country to participate in the national elections to be held in February 2026 after a long 16 years. As part of that preparation, the names of potential candidates have been announced for 237 seats.
He also said, "We have not fielded candidates in the seats where the parties in simultaneous movements want to field candidates. They will announce their own candidates."
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will contest the elections from Bogra-7 and Dinajpur-3 seats. Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will participate in the elections from Bogra-6 and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir from Thakurgaon-1.
In addition, party standing committee members Major (retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Bir Bikram will contest from Bhola-3 seats.
