The low pressure area formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas has turned into a distinct low pressure area and is likely to intensify further. Meteorologist Mustafa Kamal Palash said that due to the influence of this low pressure area, there is a possibility of continuous rain in different parts of the country from Wednesday (May 28) to Sunday (June 1).
He said that a low pressure area formed again on Tuesday (May 27) in the same place—where the terrible floods occurred in August 2024. There is a fear that it will enter the land along the same path and move towards Sylhet and the Indian state of Tripura.
There is a possibility of moderate to heavy and very heavy rain across the country especially on May 29 and 30. It has predicted 100 to 300 mm of rain in several districts including Comilla, Feni, Noakhali, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Rangamati, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona, Kishoreganj, Sherpur, Gaibandha, Kurigram.
There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in the Indian states of Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal and Sikkim at the same time. As a result, the water level in the border rivers may rise rapidly, especially in the Feni and Gumti rivers.
Meteorologists have warned that the rain will continue in various parts of the country till May 31 and the situation may last till June 1.
