At a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Tuesday (June 17), Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that the government is taking a neutral stance towards all the parties that participated in the mass uprising. He said that it is not known why Jamaat-e-Islami did not participate in today's discussions, but discussions have been held with them and we hope that they will participate tomorrow.

Denying allegations of bias in the activities of the government and the National Consensus Commission, Shafiqul Alam said, "We are trying to remain completely neutral. Every political party that participated in the mass uprising is of equal importance to us. The ongoing discussions of the Consensus Commission are very important for reforms."

Representatives of other political parties including BNP, NCP, CPB, BSD, Islamic Movement and others participated in the National Consensus Commission meeting, but Jamaat-e-Islami did not participate. The meeting was delayed waiting for Jamaat representatives.

When contacted, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar's personal officer said that he would discuss the matter with the leader and inform him later. He also said that if Jamaat joins the dialogue, it will be informed to the media.
