In a message on the occasion of World Hydrography Day-2025, Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus called on the relevant professionals to work with professionalism, skill and dedication to develop a complete hydrographic database of Bangladesh's maritime boundaries.

He said, "To make Bangladesh's economy stronger and more sustainable, it is essential to formulate an effective and integrated maritime policy through accurate mapping of the seabed."

In a message given on Friday, June 20, he said that he was happy to know that World Hydrography Day is being celebrated this year as well. He extended his best wishes and congratulations to all concerned, including the Bangladesh Navy, for organizing the day.

He commented that this year's theme of the day, 'Seabed Mapping: Enabling Ocean Action', is very timely and realistic. He said, the Bay of Bengal is one of the foundations of economic prosperity not only of Bangladesh but also of the entire region. Therefore, there is no alternative to detailed and updated hydrographic information in utilizing this marine resource.

Professor Yunus further said that the current interim government is working towards transforming the country into a productive and regional economic hub. In this process, accurate hydrographic information is very important for the sustainable use of marine resources.

He said that the Hydrographic Division of the Bangladesh Navy is working tirelessly to survey coastal areas and maritime boundaries, prepare maps, ensure maritime safety and exchange information according to international standards.

He mentioned that the role of this division is also essential in determining the maritime boundaries according to the United Nations Law of the Sea and in developing the blue economy.

He expressed hope that the Hydrographic Division will play a more active role not only in military and naval security, but also in seaport development, conservation of fisheries resources, energy exploration and coastal disaster management.
