Bangladesh has been on high alert as new strains of coronavirus spread in various parts of India. Especially with the increase in infections of Omicron LF.7, XFG, JN.1 and NB.1.8.1 variants, the Health Department has directed to strengthen screening and health checks at all land, sea and airports in the country.

These instructions were given in an order signed by the Director of the Disease Control Branch of the Health Department, Dr. Farhad Hossain, on June 4. It has also been ordered to provide health checks and awareness messages to suspected passengers arriving from infected countries, including India, through the Immigration and International Health Regulations (IHR) Health Desk.

On the morning of June 8, at Benapole Immigration, officials in charge of the medical desk were seen checking whether passengers arriving from India had symptoms of corona.

Abdul Majid, Deputy Assistant Medical Officer of Benapole Immigration, said that every passenger returning from India is being tested for the new Omicron variant. If symptoms are found, the passenger concerned has been instructed to be sent to isolation.
