At a discussion meeting on the occasion of the 'fall of the fascist murderer Hasina and the anniversary of the July-24 Revolution' at the National Press Club on Saturday (July 26), BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that there is an extreme mess going on in the country now. Those who want PR do not know what PR is. The event was organized by the Zia Parishad.
He raised the question, "Can the country be run by bringing in a few hired people from abroad?" When the audience said "no", he said, "This is what we have to realize."
Fakhrul said, "The nation is now going through a transitional period. We are waiting for the transition to democracy." He alleged that the Awami League has destroyed everything including the judiciary, law, and health sectors. It has also destroyed the structures of pro-democracy political parties through repression for 15 years.
He said that national leader Khaleda Zia announced 'Vision 2030' in 2016 with the aim of reforming the state. Then Tarique Rahman gave 31 points in 2022, which can bring about radical changes in the political and economic structure of the country.
Regarding the reform, he said, “This is not something immediate, it is a process. For example, there is no reason to think that the police will stop taking bribes from tomorrow if they want. But a system must be developed so that they cannot take bribes.”
He also said that to run the country, people’s representatives are needed. “Where will those representatives come from without elections? How will people’s rule be established if they do not go to parliament?”
Highlighting the importance of honesty, he said, “Honesty is the biggest need for the BNP now. Those who will do politics according to the ideology of Ziaur Rahman must first be honest with themselves. Because, these days, some news does not go with the image of BNP.”
