Raped During Ride-Share: What Really Happened to the Woman

According to police and related sources, on May 28, 2025, at 3:30 pm, a 26-year-old working woman left Mirpur-12 in the capital Dhaka for Shyamoli by renting a ride-sharing motorcycle to see a doctor. Before the journey, she informed the driver of her destination and put on the helmet provided by the driver as per the rules. After that, the woman could not remember anything else. After regaining consciousness, she found herself in the dark in an unknown open place, where the ride-share driver and his two accomplices were also present. When she screamed, she was raped and threatened to kill her and the incident was recorded on video.


The place of that horrific incident was a deserted place under a culvert on the regional highway from Mirpur-12 in Dhaka to Ghorashal area of ​​Palash Police Station in Narsingdi district. After the rape, ride-share driver Shahparan and his accomplices snatched all the money from the woman and held a knife to her throat, called her on her mobile phone and asked her to bring money to her family members and acquaintances through mobile banking. Otherwise, they threatened to kill her. In this way, they collected the money through cash and bKash and left the scene.


According to sources, the victim's uncle called the national emergency service 999 and informed the police about the incident. After that, the police of Palash Police Station in Narsingdi rescued her from the scene and admitted her to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. Later, the woman filed a case with Palash Police Station, making ride-share driver Shahparan the main accused and his two unknown accomplices the accused. When the incident came to light, the police became active.


Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md. Anwar Hossain Shamim visited the scene and promised to arrest the accused. In continuation of this, Uber driver Md. Shahparan (30), the mastermind of the gang who was trying to escape from Keraniganj, Dhaka, and the main accused in the case, was arrested on Saturday midnight. He is the youngest of the 7 children of the deceased Abdul Ali of Taranagar Battoli (Dakshin Para) area of ​​Keraniganj Police Station, Dhaka.


In this regard, Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Anwar Hossain Shamim said that ride-share driver Shahparan has been arrested and during initial interrogation, he confessed to the rape. The other accused involved in the incident will also be brought under the law soon. He also requested women, especially women, to be careful while using ride-shares.


Palash Police Station OC Md. Monir Hossain said that after being produced in court, Shahparan confessed to the crime of rape under Section 164.
