At least 82 Palestinians have been killed in a single day in continuous Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera reported on Friday (July 11).
The report, citing the Gaza Health Ministry, said that the worst incident of the Israeli attack, which began early Thursday, occurred in the city of Deir al-Balah, where 15 people were killed while standing in a line to collect baby food. Among the dead were 9 children and 4 women. At least 30 others were injured in the attack, 19 of whom were children.
Catherine Russell, Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), strongly condemned the attack and said, "Killing people when they come to seek help to survive is simply inhumane."
Israel has been carrying out military operations in Gaza in response to the war that began after Hamas' surprise attack on October 7, 2023. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 57,762 Palestinians have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict so far, and another 137,656 have been injured.
