The artist's daughter Sharmini Abbasi told The Daily Star that Mustafa Zaman Abbasi had been suffering from various physical complications related to old age for some time. He was admitted to the hospital on Friday with respiratory problems. He breathed his last at 5:30 am today.

Mustafa Zaman Abbasi was a talented artist born in a renowned musical family. His father Abbasuddin Ahmed was a legend of folk music, and his uncle Abdul Karim was a popular folk singer. His elder brother Mustafa Kamal was a lawyer, and his daughter Nasheed Kamal and sister Ferdousi Rahman are renowned musicians of the country.

Mustafa Zaman Abbasi was born on December 8, 1936, in the village of Balrampur in Cooch Behar district, India. He spent his childhood and adolescence in Kolkata. He obtained a BA (Hons) degree from Dhaka University in 1959 and an MA degree in 1960.

In addition to music, he hosted various music-related programs on radio and television. He was also well-known as a columnist.
