The Meteorological Office has recorded 208 millimeters of rainfall in Noakhali in the last 24 hours. The water level in the district has increased by 17 centimeters in a day due to the additional rain, although it is still 1 centimeter below the danger level, the Water Development Board said.
The continuous rain has caused widespread waterlogging in Sadar, Companiganj, Kabirhat and Subarnachar. Water has entered houses in many areas. As a result, teaching and examinations in secondary schools in four upazilas have been suspended.
The situation is even more dire in the district town of Maijdi. Most roads, including Stadium Para, Jail Road, Fakirpur, Harinarayanpur, and housing areas, are knee-deep in water. Ground-floor and mud houses have been flooded, causing extreme suffering to the residents.
Although there have been 4-5 periods of waterlogging since mid-June during the current monsoon, it is feared that this time the situation may be more prolonged.
