A notification issued on Thursday (May 22) night gave the power to the investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal to arrest the accused.
Registrar ASM Ruhul Imran issued the notification on the orders of the tribunal's chairman, Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, members Justice M Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury and Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud.
It is learned that after the International Crimes Tribunal was reconstituted on October 14 last year after the mass uprising, three amendments were made to the law. This time, changes have also been made to the rules of procedure for the first time.
Before the amendment, only the law enforcement agencies could execute the arrest warrants issued by the tribunal. As a result of the amendment, the tribunal's investigation officers will now also be able to execute the warrants.
