Controversial Former Prothom Alo Correspondent Now Jugantor’s Brahmanbaria Correspondent

Sohrab Hossain, who previously served as the Kasba correspondent for Prothom Alo, recently joined the Jamuna Group’s daily newspaper, Jugantor, as the Brahmanbaria correspondent. Allegations of extensive extortion have been raised against Sohrab. Despite being based in a sub-district town, he is alleged to own two apartments in Dhaka, a market in Kasba, and several other properties in various names, as confirmed by multiple journalists from Brahmanbaria who work in Kasba and Dhaka._x000D_ _x000D_ Several journalists have accused Sohrab of engaging in extortion across various sub-districts in Brahmanbaria and Comilla, despite being a representative of a single sub-district. When we spoke to local journalists, they confirmed these allegations on the condition of anonymity. It has been alleged that Sohrab secured his position in Jugantor by paying BDT 100,000 to the editor, Saiful Alam._x000D_ _x000D_ When contacted by Bangladesh Media Monitor, Jugantor's editor, Saiful Alam, denied any involvement, stating, “I have never known him, nor have I ever met or spoken with him.
